Staff Electric Helps Nonprofit Ensure No Child Goes Home Hungry

Food is essential, and to 13 million hungry children in the United States, it’s a blessing. Poor nutrition can result in a weakened immune system, lower IQ, and lower academic performance. While children in need are fed during the school week by federal government programs, many of these children are forced to go without on the weekends.

Blessings in a Backpack is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure children have access to nutritious meals over the weekend, too.

Staff Electric’s Payroll Specialist, Lori Michaud, nominated the charity. “I chose Blessings in a Backpack because I like their mission to help feed kids on the weekends,” she shares. “We all have seen the efforts to keep kids fed at school, but I never thought about what kind of meals they have access to on the weekends. This program fills a need that I don’t believe is fulfilled by other organizations. Lack of food and food insecurities are issues children should never have to deal with.”

Through the Blessings in a Backpack program, a $130 donation will feed one child on the weekends for one 38-week school year, resulting in healthy kids ready to learn.

On November 16, 2021, Staff Electric helped fill 101 backpacks full of nutritious meals and resources for kids over the weekend. This gift was presented in honor of Staff Electric’s 101st anniversary.

Thank you, Blessings in a Backpack, for all the amazing work you do all year long.
